Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 may be coming after all

The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 may be coming after all, despite some rumors claiming differently. This info got published on Twitter, by two sources, actually. First, a well-known tipster, Revegnus said it, and then another source kind of confirmed it.

The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 may be coming after all, despite previous rumors

Revegnus initially believed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy kind of replaced the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2. Then, yesterday, he tweeted out something else entirely. He still believes the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 is coming later this year.

Another source we’re not that familiar with, Ebiten, said that the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro is coming, and that the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 will fuel that device. He also mentioned some details about the SoC itself.

The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 is said to offer a main CPU frequency of 3.36GHz, while the main frequency of the GPU will be 719MHz. The OnePlus Ace 2 Pro is tipped to include up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 flash storage.

Back in April, Yogesh Brar claimed that Qualcomm plans to skip the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2. That tipster does have a mixed track record, so it would not be surprising if the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 ends up launching after all.

If that SoC is on the way, it’ll launch in the near future

Having said that, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 launched in May last year. So, if the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 is on the way, it should launch in the near future. Well, presuming that Qualcomm plans to stick to its release cycle.

Even if that chip doesn’t launch, it won’t really matter. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is an outstanding processor, and many would argue that the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 is really not necessary at this point.

The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 brought a number of improvements over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, but that is not needed in this case. We’ll see what’ll happen in the end, stay tuned.
