The Galaxy S22 series is following close on the heels of its successor to Samsung‘s July 2023 update. Shortly after the company released this month’s security patch to its latest flagships, the 2022 models are joining the party too. While the Galaxy S23 series first picked up the new SMR (Security Maintenance Release) in the US, the rollout for the Galaxy S22 trio has begun in Europe.
Samsung is pushing the July update to the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra with the firmware build number S90*BXXS6CWF6 in European countries. Like the Galaxy S23 series, the official changelog states that the 2022 flagships aren’t getting anything else apart from the latest security patches. The firmware version doesn’t indicate anything, either. This means Galaxy S22 users will have to wait longer for the Gallery features that Samsung promised recently.
With the big June update for the Galaxy S23 series, Samsung added the ability to delete multiple motion photos at once in the Gallery app. The company also improved the lens distortion correction functionality for its Photo Remaster tool. It has announced both of these features for the Galaxy S22 series, as well as the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 20, and all recent foldables (except for the original Galaxy Fold). We will let you know when Samsung pushes these promised updates.
In the meantime, Galaxy S22 users can install the July update to ensure their phone is safe from several vulnerabilities. As usual, this month’s SMR should contain fixes for dozens of security issues. Unfortunately, Google hasn’t published the details of the July patch for Android devices yet. Along with those Android OS patches, Samsung will also fix some security issues with various system apps, services, and components. Stay tuned for these details in the coming days.
Samsung is internally testing the Android 14 update for the Galaxy S22 series
As Google prepares for the stable Android 14 release, Samsung is also hard at work to bring the latest features to Galaxy devices through One UI 6.0. The Android 14-based custom software will soon enter the public beta stage. We are expecting the Galaxy S23 series to first get the beta update in mid-July, followed by other models. The latter group includes the Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Z Fold 4, and Galaxy Z Flip 4. The Korean firm is already testing this big update internally for all of these devices. We will let you know as soon as it begins public testing of One UI 6.0.
