Sony's PS5 sales milestone reaches 40 million consoles

Sony has made a big announcement today, noting that it has officially sold 40 million PS5 consoles. Climbing ever higher, the sales of PS5’s across the globe signify that Sony now appears to be in a good spot with PS5 availability.

Much like the Xbox Series X|S, the PS5 ran into numerous problems with availability during its launch. Units were limited and often times, you had to wait in line just for a chance to buy one. And even after getting through the line, you still might have missed the opportunity as units would run out. It didn’t help that the PS5 launched at the height of the pandemic and scalpers were already working overtime to snap up anything and everything of value for the resale market.

Thankfully, those times are over. Sony has steadily been ironing out supply chain issues to make it more possible than ever to find a PS5.

PlayStation CEO says the PS5 is now “well-stocked”

40 million units sold is a big milestone for the company but that isn’t the entirety of the announcement. PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan also says the PS5 is now well-stocked. Which means consumers will continue to find it easier and easier to buy one right off the shelf. To those wondering, you can toss one in your cart over at Best Buy for pickup right now.

In addition to the number of PS5 consoles sold, Ryan also shared some metrics surrounding games. There are now reportedly over 2,500 PS5 games available. With some heavy hitters having just released in the last couple of months. This includes AAA titles like Diablo IV, Final Fantasy XVI, Street Fighter 6. All of which seem to be extremely well.

One of those games, Final Fantasy XVI, is actually one of the top PS5 games. As part of an infographic that was shared in the announcement, Sony lists off a bunch of the top PS5 games. These were all voted on by the community, and it includes titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, Bugsnax, Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut, Demon’s Souls, Gran Turismo 7, Stray, Sifu and more.
