Galaxy S23 FE gathers more certifications as launch draws closer

Samsung‘s Galaxy S23 FE has passed another hurdle on its way to launch. The new Fan Edition (FE) handset has picked up the BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) certification in India, confirming its arrival in the country. It has already received several other regulatory certifications also gained official support pages on the company’s websites.

The BIS has listed the Galaxy S23 FE with the model number SM-S711B/DS (via MySmartPrice). It’s the global version of the phone with dual-SIM support. The listing doesn’t reveal anything else, but there’s no shortage of leaks and rumors about the new FE phone from Samsung. Benchmark entries have confirmed that the Korean firm will release the device in two processor variants. The US version (SM-S711U) will get the Snapdragon 8 gen 1, while the global version will ship with the Exynos 2200.

Both of these are flagship processors predominantly found in phones from 2022. Samsung is likely using these chips to keep manufacturing costs down (the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 costs more, while the company never released the Exynos 2300). The chipset will be paired with up to 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The Galaxy S23 FE will ship with Android 13 onboard, likely running One UI 5.1 out of the box, if not One UI 5.1.1.

The Galaxy S23 FE will feature flagship-grade cameras

This phone will also get flagship-grade cameras. Rumors are that Samsung will equip it with a 10MP selfie camera found on the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+. The Galaxy S23 FE will also feature a 50MP primary rear camera, the same sensor that the Korean firm used on the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+. The 8MP telephoto zoom camera (3x optical zoom) and the 12MP ultrawide lens may carry over unchanged from the Galaxy S21 FE, though (there’s no Galaxy S22 FE).

Most of the remaining specs will also probably remain unchanged. We are expecting the Galaxy S23 FE to retain a 4,500mAh battery with support for 25W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. The handset should feature a Dynamic AMOLED 2X with a 120Hz refresh rate and an under-display fingerprint scanner. Samsung should also offer an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 6, and Samsung DeX support.

As far as the launch date is concerned, there’s no concrete evidence about it yet. A Samsung executive recently said that the device will launch imminently, but didn’t share anything more. Rumors are that the company will release the phone in some markets as early as September, but a few others might have to wait until 2024. We will keep monitoring the developments around the Galaxy S23 FE and let you know as soon as we have more information.
