Having updated pretty much all eligible flagship Galaxy smartphones to the August 2023 Android security patch, Samsung has now shifted focus to budget and mid-range devices. It has just released the latest security update for the Galaxy A52s and Galaxy A04s. The company also recently pushed the new SMR (Security Maintenance Release) to the Galaxy A54 5G and Galaxy A34 5G.
As of this writing, Samsung’s August update for the Galaxy A52s is available in Europe. The company is widely rolling out the new SMR to the 2021 mid-range handset in the region. The updated firmware build number for the phone is A528BXXS4EWGB (via SamMobile). The company’s official changelog confirms that the device isn’t getting any additional goodies apart from this month’s security fixes.
The same security fixes are also available for the Galaxy A04s. The rollout for this budget phone has begun in Latin America where users are getting the update with firmware version A047MUBS4CWG1. Once again, Samsung is only pushing the August SMR without any new features or improvements. The latest update for both of these Galaxy A series devices should reach more markets in the coming days.
As far as the content of the latest SMR is concerned, there are plenty of security fixes here. Samsung has already revealed that this month’s security patch eliminates as many as 86 vulnerabilities across the Galaxy family. At least three of those were critical issues potentially allowing remote code execution without requiring additional privileges. The vast majority of the remaining patches were classified as “high-severity” flaws by Google and Samsung.
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is widely getting Samsung’s August update
Samsung began rolling out the August security update to Galaxy devices early this month. It has already pushed the update to eligible flagship models, including all foldables launched since 2020. However, apart from the Galaxy Z Fold 3, no other Z-series phone has picked up the latest SMR outside the US. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is now joining that list.
Samsung has released this month’s security patch for the 2021 Flip model in Latin America. The update comes with the build number F711BXXS6EWG7 in the region. It brings the latest security fixes and nothing more, Samsung’s official changelog confirms. The company will soon release the August SMR for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and other foldable devices in more markets. As usual, you can check for new updates for your Galaxy smartphone from the Settings app.
