On Tuesday, Google announced that Android is getting a new logo. One that is more modern and more inclusive. Even the Android Robots are getting a redesign this time around. So it’s a pretty big change for the world’s largest mobile operating system.
This is the first time since 2019 that Google has updated the logo of Android. And the last update wasn’t a very large one.
With this redesign, Google says that you’ll notice some “subtle changes that help connect Android to Google”. The company is moving away from the longstanding lowercase stylization of “android” and moving to capitalizing the A. It’s also adding more weight to its appearance when placed next to the Google logo. There’s more curves and personality that is unique to Android, the new Android stylization actually mirrors the Google Logo quite closely.
The bugdroid is getting more character
With the changes to the Android logo, Google is also making changes to its mascot, the bugdroid. It now appears with more dimension, and a whole lot more character. This is a visual signifier of the Android brand, and Google wanted it to appear as dynamic as Android itself. Google has also updated its body, making it a bit more round. Making the bugdroid as unique as the members of the Android community.
Google says that you’ll start to see these changes to the brand identity appearing on Android devices and in more places starting later this year. This includes the updated logo as well as the 3D bugdroid.
They aren’t really large changes for the new logo and bugdroid, but definitely needed. The new Android logo is simple, and looks really good. It does look more like it is part of Google, versus just another company. Which is important, even though most people do know that Google owns and makes Android.
