iPhone 16 & 16 Plus may not get 120Hz displays after all

As many of you know, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are still stuck on 60Hz displays. Their ‘Pro’ counterparts do include 120Hz panels. Well, it seems like the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus may not get 120Hz displays after all.

The iPhone 16 & 16 Plus may not get 120Hz displays after all… but there’s still a chance

In fact, we’ve seen some conflicting rumors regarding this. The latest info is also conflicting, actually. A well-known tipster, Majin Bu, claims that both phones will get 120Hz displays. On the other hand, Nithin Prasad, another tipster, claims they will not.

Nithin Prasad went to Twitter to say that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will be stuck on 60Hz LTPS OLED displays. The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus, on the other hand, will be getting 120Hz LTPO OLED panels.

So, he believes that Apple will keep its vanilla models on 60Hz panels for one extra year. This means that we may have to wait until 2025 in order to get vanilla iPhones with 120Hz displays. If you believe Majin Bu, on the other hand, things are different. We’ll have to wait and see.

Most regular consumers don’t know the difference, nor do they care about it

Many would argue that regular consumers don’t know the difference between 60Hz and 120Hz panels. So, the vast majority of people buying those phones don’t know or care about the difference.

Tech enthusiasts usually get the ‘Pro’ models, and people who are aware of the difference in general. That may be true, but very cheap Android phones have been utilizing 120Hz panels for years, so… it’s no wonder some people are disappointed.

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus did get quite a few improvements this year, though. They not only have a Type-C USB port, but also have a Dynamic Island now, and improved cameras too. A better SoC is now included too, and the design has been changed slightly.
