Samsung has announced the next big update for Good Lock, its customization suite for Galaxy devices. Good Lock 6.0 will bring several new features, changes, and improvements to the platform. The update will be available simultaneously with Android 14-based One UI 6.0. Some changes will only be live following the One UI 6.1 update in 2024.
Good Lock 6.0 new features
Good Lock enables Galaxy users to customize their phones in a whole new way that isn’t possible with the stock software. You can change the look and feel of various system elements and unlock new functions to get the most out of your device. The suite, which consists of several downloadable modules, has been around for many years, but it was mostly limited to select markets. Samsung recently expanded its availability and is now adding new features.
According to a community post, Good Lock 6.0 will make it easier to update modules following a major Android OS upgrade. This has always been an annoying drawback of the platform. Since major platform updates change several things at the system level, Samsung engineers have to work around those changes to ensure feature compatibility, requiring an update for every module. The new version will seemingly simplify this process.
The upcoming Good Lock update will also make the Edge Lighting+ module compatible with non-foldable devices. Additionally, Sound Assistant will gain new decoration effects that you can use to customize the sound control panel. Wonderland will also add new transition effects when moving between AOD (always-on display) and the lock screen or home screen. Finally, Nicecatch will give you more detailed information when notifications don’t go through.
More new features with One UI 6.1
Good Lock 6.0 will get another major update in early 2024 following the release of One UI 6.1 for compatible Galaxy devices. The next update will bring a deeper integration of LockStar and ClockFace modules with the OS for a seamless and consistent design and user experience. Kids Cafe will let you customize keyboard gestures to execute desired functions. You can also customize keyboard touch sounds.
The upcoming Good Lock updates will make “major structural improvements” to the HomeUp module to support a wider variety of styles. “In order to provide more diverse types of gestures/styles on the most frequently used home screen, we are completely redesigning the structure for the new One UI rather than based on Android’s basic structure,” the community post notes.
Theme Park will also see some structural changes that will speed up the process of installing themes. Last but not least, Samsung is bringing its Game Booster team under the Good Lock team in 2024. This means a new module related to gaming. These Good Lock 6.0 updates will gradually roll out over the next few months. The stable One UI 6.0 update should be available for the Galaxy S23 series in late October.
