YouTube bring a new sharing UI

A big part of the app experience is how you’re going to be sharing content. Most apps use the standard Android share sheet when you tap on the share button. YouTube has its own sharing UI, but that’s about to change. According to Mishaal Rahman (via Android Police), YouTube will revamp its share sheet.

YouTube has been working on changing its UI for a while. Recently, the company brought rounded corners to the videos on the main site. This gives the interface a nice look to it. It’s only for the web version and not for the app. Also, you won’t see this when in theater mode.

YouTube is getting a new sharing UI

When you tap on the share button for a YouTube video, you’ll see the unique YouTube share sheet. This sheet is divided into two sections. The top part has the typical options you’d find in the Android share sheet. You’ll see the Nearby Share option along with the apps where you can share the video. Under that, you’ll see the Copy link and Create post buttons.

With this change, YouTube will simplify the share sheet. In the screenshots, we see how the share menu will look on both a traditional phone and a foldable phone. On the foldable device, we see that the share sheet will float in the middle of the UI right over the video.

There’s one carousel of sharing options in the bar, and they include the Copy link option. One thing we noticed, however, is the lack of the Nearby Share option. We’re not sure if just further down the carousel or missing.

The other screenshot shows the menu when you’re using a traditional phone. The share sheet will still be a floating element, but it’ll be much closer to the bottom of the screen. This one is just like the one on the foldable screen, but it just shows fewer items.

At this point, we don’t know when YouTube is going to push out this change. We feel that this could be a part of the move from Google to create a unified share sheet for Android 14. If that’s the case, then there shouldn’t be too much longer to wait.
