Earlier this month, Samsung unveiled a cool new camera feature called ISOCELL Zoom Anyplace. It uses 200MP camera sensors for improved video zoom. While the company didn’t reveal when this tech will be available commercially, it appears we won’t have to wait much longer. A new Samsung video suggests the Galaxy S24 Ultra will boast the feature. The video also pretty much confirms that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will power the phone globally.
Samsung could introduce Zoom Anyplace with the Galaxy S24 Ultra
Samsung recently released a promotional video for ISOCELL Zoom Anyplace. It shows how the AI-powered feature can automatically track a selected subject in real time and zoom in on it as it moves around. Your phone can simultaneously capture the zoomed footage and the full field of view. You can even see the two views side-by-side on the screen. It enables an entirely new camera zoom experience on mobile devices.
That isn’t it, though. Thanks to the Tetra-pixel technology offered by Samsung’s 200MP ISOCELL cameras, Zoom Anyplace can maintain 4K video resolution up to 4x zoom. You get the same video quality as you zoom in and out in any direction. Towards the end of the video, Samsung talks about another AI-powered camera feature called “End-to-End (E2E) AI Remosaic.” It reduces the image processing times for 200MP shots by as much as half.
However, we are more interested in Zoom Anyplace. Samsung says this feature is “accelerated by the Qualcomm AI Engine.” The AI tracking technology is proprietary to Qualcomm. The video even features the newly announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. This should mean that the feature is compatible with phones that have Samsung’s 200MP ISOCELL cameras and are powered by the new Qualcomm processor.
At the moment, the Galaxy S24 Ultra appears to be the only Samsung phone meeting both conditions. The Galaxy S23 Ultra does have a 200MP camera but features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+, on the other hand, won’t get 200MP cameras. They will also miss out on the latest Snapdragon chip in some markets, including Europe. Samsung will ship the phones with Exynos 2400 in those markets.
The Galaxy S24 should get Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 globally
If Samsung does offer Zoom Anyplace on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, the phone should ship with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 globally. It would be unfair if some users get Exynos 2400 that doesn’t support the new feature. We have seen the European version of the device with the Snapdragon chip in benchmark listings before. The new Samsung video on YouTube now pretty much confirms things. The Galaxy S24 series is expected to arrive in January 2024.
