He shared some of the specs the chip will offer. It will include one Cortex X4 core clocked at 3.25GHz. In addition to that, three low-frequency Cortex X4 cores will be included, along with four A720 cores.
On top of all that, you’ll also get a 12-core Immortalis G720 GPU here. This cheap is said to trump the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in terms of both CPU and GPU power, however… what about power efficiency?
Based on these specs, the power consumption will likely be higher than on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. That’s just an assumption, though, of course, but still… it makes us worry.
There are two concerns when it comes to the Dimensity 9300
The tipster did say: “Let’s not talk about the energy consumption” at the very end of his post. So, he is suggesting that power efficiency will take a hit here. Power efficiency is one thing that worries us, but it’s not the only one.
Last month, “those in the know” provided some inside info about the chip, claiming that the ship is running quite hot. In other words, the thermals may be an issue for it. That goes down to MediaTek’s ambitious design choices.
Having said that, there’s always a chance MediaTek will change something in order to amend such concerns. The chip is not official yet, and we’ll have to wait until it finds its way into devices to properly test it, and see for ourselves. As things stand, it does look immensely powerful, but it does raise concerns at the same time. We still don’t know when will it launch, but the Dimensity 9200 launched in November last year, so… it could happen next month, if not sooner.
