An official Grand Theft Auto VI announcement is expected in December, which means we’re probably just a few weeks out from ending the decade-long wait for the follow-up to the incredibly popular Grand Theft Auto V. At least when it comes to an official reveal (the launch is obviously still a way’s out). As one of Rockstar’s and the gaming industry’s most popular franchises, Grand Theft Auto has made its way onto just about every platform. Including multiple release copies of Grand Theft Auto V. Which originally released on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013. And most recently a copy of the game on current consoles like the PS5.
Now ten years later it looks like Rockstar is finally ready to reveal what’s coming for the series. Today in a blog post, the studio says it’s going to be showcasing the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto game in December. It doesn’t explicitly say “Grand Theft Auto VI.” But after numerous leaks for the upcoming game have surfaced over the past year it’s a little hard to imagine the trailer could be for anything else.
The Grand Theft Auto VI announcement will likely happen around Rockstar’s 25th anniversary
If you’re a loyal Rockstar fan then you probably already know Rockstar’s 25th is coming up. That’s a long time to be a developer in the gaming industry and it’s a momentous occasion. One that apparently warrants a really special announcement to mark the occasion. And what better way to do that then officially announce the next game in your biggest franchise while also showing off its first trailer.
With that in mind, December 10 could be the day the trailer is released. This is because December 10 is the day that Rockstar celebrated its 20th anniversary back in 2018. But just to be completely clear the studio hasn’t confirmed any specific dates. Just that a trailer will be shown off next month. Today’s blog post also serves as proof that the GTA series isn’t going anywhere. If there was any doubt. “We look forward to many more years of sharing these experiences with all of you,” says Sam Houser – President of Rockstar Games.
