PlayStation will lose the ability to share clips to X this month

Later this month Sony will disable the ability to share PlayStation clips saved from your PS5 or PS4 consoles to X. One of the staple integration features that the PlayStation platform has had for years is the ability to post clips directly to X (formerly Twitter). You could save a short 30-second video from one of your gaming sessions and then post it. So long as you had your accounts linked together. But Sony has confirmed this week that it will be discontinuing this capability.

As of right now it’s still possible to share your PS5 and PS4 clips directly to your X profile. But come November 13 that changes as that’s when the feature will be shut off. Microsoft made a similar change with its Xbox consoles earlier this year due to X’s API changes. Sony doesn’t confirm this is the reason it’s choosing to do the same thing. But it seems like a pretty high likelihood. You may have already even seen Sony’s notification about this change on your own console as it seems to have popped up for some.

You can still share your PlayStation clips on X, just not directly from the console

If you enjoy sharing your awesome gaming moments on X you can still do so. There will just be a couple of extra steps now. You’ll first need to save a clip to the console. The good news is that on PS5 clips are automatically uploaded to the PlayStation app. You can then go into the app and download that clip onto your phone’s gallery and share it to X that way. You even have the option to trim the clip beforehand. Which in some cases you may need to do if the clips are longer than a few minutes.

It’s definitely not as fast as sharing directly from the console. But it is an alternative. And in some ways it’s an improvement. As now you can share the clip to more places.
