Samsung's dual-chip strategy for the Galaxy S24 confirmed

We now have official confirmation that Samsung‘s Galaxy S24 series will be powered by two different chipsets. The confirmation came from Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon. He recently said that Qualcomm will supply the majority of chips for the Galaxy S24, which means there will be another firm supplying chips for the new Galaxy flagships. That’s none other than Samsung itself, with its Exynos 2400 powering the phones in some markets.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra may feature a Qualcomm chip globally

Rumors about Samsung returning to a dual-chip strategy for its 2024 flagships have been around for several months now. Many are disappointed with the idea of an Exynos processor powering the Galaxy S24 series because the company struggled with power efficiency, thermals, and performance in the past. The Korean firm exclusively used the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for the Galaxy S23 series and everyone saw its superior performance.

However, despite fans showing disappointment, Samsung isn’t backing out. Last month, it unveiled the Exynos 2400 without associating it with the Galaxy S24 series. The company didn’t share many details about the chip but it teased notable improvements in CPU, GPU, and AI performances. It likely wants to instill confidence about the Exynos 2400 in customers before bringing the new flagships to the market.

Meanwhile, rumors have it that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will not feature the new Exynos chip. Samsung will ship it with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 globally. Cristiano’s comments suggest the same. Since the Ultra model usually accounts for more than half of all flagship sales for Samsung, Qualcomm will comfortably be the major chip supplier for the new Galaxy flagships if the Galaxy S24 Ultra model is shipped with the latest Snapdragon globally.

The base Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ will also feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the US and China. The Exynos 2400 will power these two models in Europe, India, Africa, Latin America, and other remaining markets. Hopefully, the new Exynos solution can match the performance of its Snapdragon rival. If not, it would be difficult for Samsung to regain the trust of its customers in the future.

The new flagships may arrive in January 2024

Samsung launched the Galaxy S23 series on February 1 this year. The 2024 models are rumored to arrive a couple of weeks earlier than that. The company is reportedly planning to unveil the Galaxy S24 series in mid-January. Leaks and rumors about the devices should get more detailed as the launch draws closer. We will keep you posted with all the latest information about the next-gen Samsung flagships.
