Starfield, like any Bethesda game, has a flourishing mod community that loves to create mod packs to alter the game’s functions and features, and one of the latest is an underwater diving mod. Have you ever wanted to take the plunge into the seemingly massive oceans of Starfield’s many planets? Well now you can with this mod.
Spotted by Techradar, the ‘Underwater Diving Restoration’ mod can be found over on Nexus Mods. The installation process seems pretty simple and has a short and to the point set of directions if you were curious to try out the mod for yourself. According to the mod’s creator, with it you can go underwater and harvest the fish or other creatures you find non-lethally. The mod is also intended as a means to admire the game’s aquatic creatures better. Since you’re not able to dive underwater when swimming in the base game, any aquatic creatures you find are generally not as easy to spot or look at.
The Starfield underwater diving mod does have a few caveats
The mod does have some caveats if you’re thinking about trying it out. Though nothing really game breaking. For starters, diving underwater was never coded by Bethesda. So there’s not a whole lot of detail and underwater fog isn’t present. And it looks like you’re just floating around in mid-air the creator says. Additionally the third-person camera won’t follow the player underwater. So as soon as you dive it looks like you’re using the first-person view.
If the mod doesn’t work right away, there’s a trick to fixing it
While the mod should work fine for players, for the most part, it’s possible it may not be active even after installation. There’s a trick to fixing it though. All you need to do is fast travel to another location and back again. That’s it. The creator says players might need to do this to make the mod take effect. But that players will only need to do this one time. Worth noting is that modding the game is embraced by Bethesda. So installing these community-made mods isn’t going to get the player in any hot water with the dev team.
However, installing mods can be risky as it can mess with your game if not done correctly. So be sure to thoroughly read through installation instructions and follow them to the letter. With that said, hopefully players still exploring Starfield’s vastness of space will find this mod fun to play around with.
