The popular social media app X, formerly Twitter, has apparently been having performance issues on Google’s Pixel lineup of smartphones. The issue seems to have cropped up recently and has now been brought to the attention of the software development team at X. The problems mostly seem to revolve around X users on Pixel phones having a very slow experience using the app.
Senior staff member reaches out
Frederik Löhner, a senior staff software engineer, reached out to Pixel users on X. Löhner, who’s been with the company for almost eight years, asked Pixel users to describe their issues. He also asked users with multiple phones if they could provide video evidence of Pixel phones being slower. The replies to his tweet had many people corroborating the claims.
One user mentioned tweets taking forever to load even on fast WiFi. Another talked about how images stop loading after a few minutes and only a restart of the app fixes the problem. One Pixel owner said sending a post from their phone takes “a moment”, whereas it was instant on a computer. Fred also asked people to let him know if they were on Android 14. When one user said they still had the bug with media not loading, Frederik responded by saying they had a theory on why it was happening. He also mentioned it was difficult to reproduce and “a high-risk area”.
No ETA on a fix
As it stands, it’s impossible to tell when X might come out with a potential fix for the issue. Frederik’s comments of it being difficult to reproduce and a high-risk area suggest the team will be cautious. If that is the case, Google Pixel users will have to deal with a sluggish app for the time being. Currently no potential causes spring to mind, and whatever the team at X knows, they’re not telling. Pixel users might be able to use X on their phone’s browser, however.
X has been in the controversial spotlight ever since its acquisition by Elon Musk. Even the name change sparked lots of internet drama, with many refusing to adopt the new name. These performance issues on Pixel phones might be a big turnoff for some people. However, it’s reassuring to know that the team at X not only knows about these problems but is actively trying to fix them. Pixel users are urged to let Frederik on X know if they’ve been having any problems as well.
