The upcoming iPhone 16 series will allegedly come with a “significantly” improved Neural Engine. That improvement will benefit generative AI features that are planned for iOS 18, a report states.
The iPhone 16 to include a ‘significantly’ improved Neural Engine
This information comes from Economic Daily News, a Taiwanese publication. As many of you know, Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, did confirm that Apple is working on generative AI. He also promised that more information would come later in the year.
Apple is allegedly working on generative AI features for Siri, Shortcuts, Messages, Apple Music, and more of its services. Now, the entire iPhone 16 series is actually tipped to use the new A18 series chip. Some of these generative AI features will likely be exclusive to the iPhone 16 series. Others will trickle down to older models too, via iOS 18.
Now, regarding the Neural Engine. Apple hasn’t really increased the number of cores for it, in years. Since the iPhone 12, we’re counting 16 Neural Engine cores. Even though their number hasn’t increased, the performance surely has.
The iPhone 16 series is coming with the Apple A18, possibly all four phones
With the iPhone 16 series and its Apple A18 chip, the number of cores is expected to increase too, though nothing has been confirmed just yet, we’ll have to wait and see.
The iPhone 16 series is actually tipped to be rather similar to the iPhone 15 series, design-wise. In fact, several reports thus far said that the phones will deliver “very little” change.
The iPhone 16 Pro will include a Tetraprism lens for its camera on the back, just like the iPhone 15 Pro Max does. That phone will be slightly larger, and it will include a larger display. The same goes for the iPhone 16 Pro Max too, actually.
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to arrive with vertically aligned cameras, which will be the most noticeable change from the design standpoint.
