It seems like iOS 18 will offer a more customizable home screen to iPhone users. This information comes from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the usual source for Apple news.
iOS 18 looks set to deliver a “more customizable” home screen
Apple will push out iOS 18 this year, of course. Mark Gurman already said it would be the biggest iOS update “since the original iPhone”. That managed to get quite a few users excited about it, as we all know that iOS doesn’t really change all that much from one version to the next.
What does this mean, exactly, that we’ll have a more customizable home screen? Well, you’ll get more control over the home screen app icon arrangement, it seems. App icons will probably remain locked to an invisible grid system, though.
MacRumors had something to add to all this. The site claims its sources claim that users “will be able to arrange icons more freely on iOS 18”. Does that mean you’ll be able to move them around as you like? Well, it’s possible, kind of. Apple’s iOS 18 could allow us to create blank spaces, rows, and columns between app icons.
Customizing your home screen in iOS 17 is not an easy task, if you want to achieve something out of the norm
You can already do this with third-party apps, though the whole customization process on iOS is… tiresome. It really takes effort to create something different. Changes like these could make the whole process a bit easier, which is a good thing.
Apple did bring plenty of customizations to the lock screen with iOS 16. The company is seemingly looking to do something similar with the home screen with iOS 18.
Now, what we mentioned probably won’t be the only change. We’re expecting more customization options to be on offer. That update will also deliver new generative AI functionality, RCS support in the Messages app, and more.
