According to a new report by Revegnus, a tipster, Apple could end up offering more RAM and/or storage with the iPhone 16. Why? Well, because of AI. To be more accurate, because of on-device AI.
The iPhone 16 could end up offering more RAM and/or storage
Revegnus says that this is based on info shared by a Korean firm that handles security. The bottom line is that Apple will most likely be forced to include either more RAM or more storage, or both.
Why? Well, because they’re needed for on-device AI. At first, it may seem that including more RAM is the solution, at least 8GB. However, Apple is allegedly planning to use NAND flash in order to make that happen, which would require more storage. In other words, the base model would ship with 256GB of storage.
Users would ideally like to see both RAM and storage counts go up, of course. That may not be the most realistic result of all this, however. We’ll have to wait and see what exactly is Apple planning to do.
The ‘Pro’ models already have 8GB of RAM
Just to be perfectly clear, we’re talking about the base iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus here, not the ‘Pro’ models. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max already offer 8GB of RAM. The two base models are locked at 6GB of RAM.
As many of you know, the entire iPhone 16 lineup is coming later this year. They’ll most likely arrive in September, and we’ll once again get four smartphones as part of the lineup.
Don’t expect major design changes to occur, however. The ‘Pro’ models are said to offer larger displays, but not the base models, it would seem. The iPhone 16 Pro will also get the Tetraprism lens that was included on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. It’s expected to be on the same level as the iPhone 16 Pro Max in terms of camera prowess.
