Samsung is rolling out its April security patch to a few more Galaxy devices in the US. The update is available for the Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy S21 FE, and Galaxy Note 20 series. This month’s SMR (Security Maintenance Release) patches more than 40 vulnerabilities across the Galaxy family.
Galaxy S23 FE and more devices get the April update in the US
Samsung recently updated the Galaxy S23 FE to One UI 6.1. The new One UI version brought AI features and more improvements to the device. The company has now started pushing the April SMR to the device. The update is rolling out in several markets worldwide, including the US.
The international version of the phone is getting the April SMR with the firmware build number S711BXXS2CXD1. In the US, the update is currently limited to carrier-locked units. It comes with the build number S711USQS3CXD2. The latest security patch for the Gaalxy S23 FE should soon be available globally.
Since it recently received One UI 6.1, it is no surprise that this update only brings security fixes. The 40-odd patches included in the April SMR contain a critical Android OS fix. If you are using the newest Fan Edition Samsung phone, watch out for a software update in the coming days.
The same security patches are also rolling out to the Galaxy S21 FE and Galaxy Note 20 series in the US. The carrier-locked variants of the former are getting the update with firmware version G990USQSAFXD1 or G990U2SQS8FXD1. The two Note phones, meanwhile, are receiving the new SMR widely. The new build numbers are N981USQS6HXD1 (locked) and N981U1UES6HXD1 (unlocked).
These two phones have already received the latest security patch in international markets, though the update may have yet to reach all eligible units globally. Neither device is receiving anything more here. The update is all about security fixes. The Galaxy S21 FE is expected to receive One UI 6.1 next month, while the Galaxy Note 20 series no longer gets feature updates.
One UI 6.1 may not bring many AI features to the Galaxy S21 FE
A Samsung representative recently said that One UI 6.1 will only bring two AI features to its 2021 flagship phones. They didn’t clarify if the Galaxy S21 FE falls under this category. If it does, the FE phone will get Circle to Search and Chat Assist. The former lets you search for anything on the screen by drawing a circle around it. The latter helps you write messages, emails, and other forms of text content.
