OnePlus is fixing an annoying issue with its OnePlus Watch 2. The new watch finally lets users transfer their health and fitness data when switching phones. An update for the OHealth app adds this much-needed feature. This update also brings a few other enhancements.
OnePlus Watch 2 now lets you transfer your health data
With Wear OS 4, Google finally introduced the ability to transfer data without resetting the watch when moving from one phone to another. This made it easier to upgrade phones without having to set up your watch all over again. It can be frustrating to curate your apps, customize watch faces, and configure all the settings as they were previously. Not to mention, you’d lose your health data unless synced to the cloud.
However, despite shipping with Wear OS 4, the OnePlus Watch 2 (Review) lacked this feature. This meant users would lose all data when switching phones, including health and fitness data unless they had signed into the OHealth app and agreed to cloud sync their data. Unsurprisingly, buyers weren’t happy about it. They voiced their frustrations, prompting the company to release a statement.
OnePlus said if enough users demand it, it will add the ability to transfer health and fitness data with an update for the OHealth app. There was no question that everyone wanted this ability and, thankfully, the company was quick to oblige. It has released the promised update. Version 4.21.5 of the app brings this feature. It adds a new “migrate data” option in profile settings to transfer your health data.
Before you get started, make sure that your new and old phones are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. You also need to sign into the OHealth app with the same account on both devices. You can also migrate the data without signing in, but cannot sign in with two different accounts. Once all criteria are met, you can initialize the migration by scanning a QR code on your new phone with your old phone.
You still cannot transfer the whole watch without resetting
Unfortunately, this update only allows you to transfer your health data. The OnePlus Watch 2 still cannot transfer itself between phones without resetting. Hopefully, the company is working on it. In the meantime, update the OHealth app for health data transfer and a few other changes. You get a toggle to auto-launch media controls on your watch when you play media on your phone. The update also adds a toggle to enable Raise to Wake from the app and set an auto screen-off time.
