Samsung is preparing to launch several new products at its next Galaxy Unpacked in July. Ahead of that, the Korean firm is busy gathering necessary regulatory approvals. It recently received FCC certifications for the Galaxy Watch 7, Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, and Galaxy Ring. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 has now passed the FCC test, revealing a few specs in the process. Most notably, the new Flip features a bigger battery but misses out on Wi-Fi 7.
Galaxy Z Flip 6 spotted on FCC ahead of launch
The FCC certified the Galaxy Z Flip 6 with the model number SM-F741U, which is its US version. The listing reveals several tidbits about the upcoming Samsung foldable. As rumored before, the company will equip the phone with a 4,000mAh battery. There will be two separate units with rated capacities of 1,097mAh and 2,790mAh. This totals to 3,887mAh, which Samsung might advertise as a 4,000mAh typical capacity.
That’s a substantially bigger battery than the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Last year’s model had batteries with a combined rated capacity of 3,591mAh (971mAh+2620mAh), with Samsung advertising a typical capacity of 3,700mAh. Despite packing a bigger battery, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is unlikely to get faster charging support. The company will seemingly limit it to just 25W wired charging speed. It will also support wireless and reverse wireless charging.
Another area where the new Flip won’t get an upgrade is the Wi-Fi standard. Samsung is only offering Wi-Fi 6E on the device. We expected the company to upgrade the foldable to Wi-Fi 7 but it didn’t. The Galaxy S24 Ultra remains the only Samsung phone with Wi-Fi 7 support. The Snapdragon variants of the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ also have the necessary hardware for Wi-Fi 7 but the firm has placed software restrictions on it.
This is likely because the Exynos variants lack support at the hardware level. However, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 should run the same Snapdragon chip that powers the Galaxy S24 Ultra globally. This makes us wonder if Samsung has again restricted its Wi-Fi 7 capabilities via a software system. It has always devoided the Flip model from some modern features. Hopefully, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will support Wi-Fi 7. It is too expensive to lack the latest Wi-Fi standard.
The new Flip will get a camera and RAM upgrade
While the FCC didn’t reveal other notable specs of the Galaxy Z Flip 6, the foldable has been subject to a few leaks in the past. Samsung is upgrading the device to a 50MP primary rear camera, replacing the aging 12MP unit. The new Flip will also get up to 12GB of RAM, up from a maximum of 8GB RAM. Rumors say the Korean firm will unveil its new foldables, smartwatches, TWS earbuds, and the first-gen Galaxy Ring on July 10.
