Walmart has confirmed it will have better availability of the Onn Pro Google TV Box. The compact Android TV box is an external streaming device that buyers can connect to their TVs.
Is Walmart promising streamlined distribution with assured availability of Onn Pro?
Walmart isn’t relaunching the Onn Pro Google TV Box. The retail giant started selling the “Pro” version of the Google Android TV box earlier this month. The Onn Pro packs a couple of USB ports, 3GB RAM, 32GB onboard storage, and always-on mics for Google Assistant commands.
Although Walmart has a strong distribution network, the company struggled with the availability of Onn Pro. In other words, Walmart failed to ensure the Onn Pro boxes were in ample supply to meet the demand. Hence, several potential buyers had to walk away empty-handed.
It is a rather strange coincidence that Walmart seemed to drop the ball with the first-generation Onn Android TV box too. Walmart reportedly accepted that it should have done better, and assured the Onn Pro Google TV streaming box will be available widely “this month.”
Incidentally, Walmart still hasn’t offered any firm release date. The retail giant has merely claimed that Onn Pro will become widely available in Walmart stores and online in the next few weeks.
What is the Onn Pro and how is it better than smart TVs?
Although most modern televisions are “Smart TVs”, several buyers prefer to attach a separate device. These “streaming boxes” are usually a little more powerful, and hence, more capable than the smart TVs.
The Walmart Onn Pro Google TV Box falls in the Android TV box category. It is powered by Google TV, which is an Android-based Operating System (OS), optimized for televisions. It features a built-in Google Assistant smart speaker. The box supports Dolby Vision plus Atmos and HDR.
The Walmart Onn Pro is essentially a more beefed-up version of Chromecast. Onn 4K Pro supports Wi-Fi 6 plus ethernet. Walmart streaming box has 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. It lets users call out “Hey Google” without needing to hold the remote as it has always-on mics.
Despite being better than Chromecast with Google TV in nearly every aspect, Walmart has priced the streaming box very aggressively. Walmart is asking $49.99 for the Onn Pro. Incidentally, even the Chromecast dongle costs the same.
