Apple is deeply involved in Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI). It is working on a new AI personality for robots, presumably to replace Siri, claims a new report.
Apple creating AI personality for robots?
Apple could be secretly building a new synthetic “personality”. Specifically speaking, the iPhone maker is reportedly trying to give Artificial Intelligence a seemingly humane way of communicating.
According to Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, Apple is building robots and improving home automation. These Internet of Things (IoT) devices would need to listen, process, and confirm commands. Hence, they need a human-like interface, he stated,
“While Siri is the digital assistant on Apple’s current devices, the company is working on another human-like interface based on generative AI. It could run on the tabletop product and other future Apple robotics devices, I’m told.”
These plans are at an extremely early stage, Gurman stressed. However, Apple could have a smart tabletop robot ready sometime in the near future, unless the company decides to abandon its plans, like the Apple Car.
Is Apple retiring Siri?
Apple attempted to reinvent smart personal assistants with the introduction of Siri. However, the tech world is now obsessed with Gen AI, presumably forcing Apple to rethink its strategy.
Apple may not be a frontrunner in the Gen AI race. However, the company has been acquiring other AI firms. If that’s not all, Apple is trying to create a lot of hype for “Apple Intelligence”, its own Gen AI platform.
Apple Intelligence offers text creation, text summaries, image generation, and more. Apple is reportedly planning to add Apple Intelligence to iPhones, iPads, and Mac computers later this year. However, quite a few of these features could be part of a subscription.
Apple may sideline Siri in its rumored tabletop home robot and replace it with a more human-like AI personality, says Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.
Siri has lagged behind other digital assistants.

Apple’s Siri is a very mature product. Moreover, the platform does appear to have natural language programming. However, it is logical for Apple to be working on a project like a new robot personality. After all, Apple product users would certainly appreciate a Gen AI that is more capable and more natural sounding in conversations than Siri is right now.
It is important to note that most of the Apple Intelligence is essentially powered by ChatGPT. Apple would certainly want to have an in-house developed human-sounding Gen AI personality for robots.
