Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold seems to be facing even more dire stock issues than initially anticipated. Whether there wasn’t very much pre-order stock to begin with or the phone was simply popular, one fact remains clear. Everywhere seems to be out of stock of Google’s sophomore foldable smartphone. Google announced the Pixel 9 Pro Fold back on August 13 during its big Made By Google event. Shortly after the keynote was over, pre-orders went live for the device. Since then, we’ve seen it go out of stock on the Google Store in the Porcelain model. Which is one of two color options.
Google is also only making two storage sizes: 256GB and 512GB. So there’s a lot less variety compared to say, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. Both of which come in a few colors and four storage sizes. As of yesterday’s notice of the Porcelain model going out of stock, the Obsidian model was still available with shipping times that were somewhere around the first or second week of September. The phone launches officially on September 4, so this would make sense.
Now, a mere 24 hours later, it seems the phone is more or less nowhere to be found. A quick check on the Google Store shows a “Get Notified” button in place of the button for adding the phone to your cart. It’s much the same at other major retailers like Amazon and Best Buy. Neither of those two places has any stock available. Unless you count the seemingly only available unit on Amazon being sold by a third-party seller for $2,000 over the retail cost.
If you did happen to place an order, it also now seems like shipments are being pushed out. Our own Chris Yackulic initially had orders showing up in early September. But it now shows that shipments are going to take until mid-October.
Pixel 9 Pro Fold stock is still available through Verizon
The only place where we could find any availability of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold was through Verizon. With AT&T confirming it won’t be selling the phone, that only left two of the three major carriers offering it. Verizon and T-Mobile. T-Mobile appears to be out of stock as well. We tried to place an order for the phone as a new customer and there was no option to add the phone to the cart or pre-order. Verizon, however, would let us go all the way through the order.
So it seems Verizon either has more stock of the phone allocated, or it’s just not being ordered as much through its web portal. Either way, it seems Google’s new foldable may be a hot-ticket item.
Is this a glimpse at a bigger problem?
It’s tough to say exactly what the issue here is. It’s entirely possible that Google didn’t manufacture that many units for the pre-order phase. There’s also a possibility that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is simply a popular device, and most retailers blew through the stock that was allocated. Regardless of the reason, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is out of stock nearly everywhere. So if you wanted one, your chances of getting the phone early are now basically zero. The good thing is, that Google and other retailers should have more stock once launch day hits.
