Roku is launching a free sports channel next week

Media streaming provider Roku is launching a free sports channel. Simply called the Roku Sports Channel, it will be launched to the users on August 12. The ad-supported sports channel will be the latest addition to its already available sports offerings. The streaming service has been bolstering its sports-related coverage over the past few years, and the Roku Sports Channel is yet another effort in this direction.

Roku Sports Channel will provide 24/7 sports coverage for free to all users

Roku’s upcoming ad-supported sports channel will provide 24/7 sports coverage for free to all of its subscribers. It will stream all major sports programs that the company owns and licenses without any additional cost. The new channel complements existing sports subscriptions, apart from simplifying the sports streaming landscape. It will be available for all Roku users starting this coming Monday.

Joe Franzetta, who heads Roku’s sports division, describes the company’s new offering as a “curated always-on channel that leads our viewer through the wide variety of premium sports content available for free on The Roku Channel.”

Highlights of the channel include live MLB games, BLB Sunday Leadoff, and Formula E races

The free Roku Sports Channel will stream MLB games, Formula E races, archival boxing games, and more. One of the biggest highlights of the new channel will be Sunday Leadoff. Notably, the streaming content provider got into a broadcast deal with the Major League Baseball games earlier this year.

The upcoming Roku Sports Channel will also stream highly acclaimed sports talk shows. Some of them include The Rich Eisen Show and GMFB: Overtime. Notably, Roku’s original content will fill in the gaps by streaming other professional leagues. These include NFL Draft: The Pick Is In, WWE: Next Gen, and Flight Inc: Inside the UFC.

Roku’s upcoming channel isn’t replacing existing sports channels on the service. All of your individual subscriptions and sports channels will still operate and function as usual. The new sports channel will be available to stream on August 12 via any Roku streaming service, the app, or the website.
