Acer revealed an exciting new gaming laptop concept at IFA 2024
Acer has long been established as one of the most popular brands for gaming laptops in the market, thanks in part to its spread of both affordable and costly options that cover the entire spectrum, and this year it’s aiming even higher by introducing the Predator Project DualPlay laptop at IFA, which has earned the Best of IFA 2024 award here at Android Headlines.
What makes this laptop so special? Well, more than a few things, but let’s focus on what truly sets it apart from everything else. Before that, though, it’s important to remember that this is just a concept device. It’s not necessarily something Acer even plans to manufacture on a mass scale and sell to consumers. However, that doesn’t make it any less cool. With that being said, the Predator Project DualPlay laptop is exciting mainly for its inclusion of a built-in wireless controller.
With any other gaming laptop on the market, if you wanted to boot up a game and play with a controller, you’d bring a wireless controller and connect it. Something like the PS5’s DualSense controller or the Xbox Wireless controller. You could still do that with the Predator Project DualPlay laptop. You wouldn’t have to though. Because it comes with one, housed right in the laptop’s chassis.
The built-in controller acts as a normal trackpad until you’re ready to play
This is honestly the best part about this laptop. The controller is sort of hidden where the trackpad is. It doesn’t take long to notice that it isn’t a normal trackpad and that something is amiss. Still, it’s neat that Acer envisioned this concept where you have all you need to play games in one product. How does it work? Well, the backside of the controller is one large trackpad for the laptop. The controller’s front, with the joysticks and buttons, faces downward when docked in its housing. So you’d never really know it was a controller until you pulled it out.
Once you’re ready to play, you can place two fingers on the release latch up above the keyboard to disengage the electromagnetic lock, and the controller can pop right out. Now you can boot up your favorite game. But, it gets even better. The electromagnetic lock disengaging also causes two stereo speakers to pop out from the sides of the laptop for a more immersive sound that envelopes you. And it doesn’t even stop there. The controller also has the ability to be split up into two controllers. Each side magnetically detaches from the main central unit and can be used by a separate person.
Making this a great laptop for playing with friends. Is it a bit of a niche gaming product? Sure. How many people really would have need for this kind of thing? It’s tough to say. But none of that matters too much for the purposes of this award. Because it’s an exciting and unique product that no one else is making. That’s why the Acer Predator Project DualPlay gaming laptop concept earned the Best of IFA 2024 award from Android Headlines.
