Yesterday, Apple introduced the iPhone 16e, the latest smartphone in the iPhone 16 series. It replaces the iPhone SE, as expected, and has arrived as the successor to the older iPhone SE 3 that Apple introduced back in 2022. The latest pocket-friendly iPhone model flaunts a handful of upgrades like the Face ID sensor, replacing the Touch ID, an improved processor optimized to handle Apple Intelligence tasks, and Apple C1, the company’s first 5G modem. While the Cupertino tech giant hasn’t officially revealed the RAM capacity of the iPhone 16e, MacRumors has shared details about it.
The iPhone 16e features 8GB of RAM to efficiently handle Apple Intelligence features
As you may probably know Apple never publicly reveals the amount of RAM included in the iPhones. However, MacRumor claims that the iPhone 16e features 8GB of RAM, the highest in the company’s affordable iPhone lineup. The previous iPhone SE model has just 4GB of RAM, so it’s a significant boost on the iPhone 16e. MacRumors has confirmed the iPhone 16e’s RAM amount in Apple’s developer tool Xcode, in collaboration with MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris.
It’s worth mentioning that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro variants also sport 8GB of RAM. Since the iPhone 16e offers Apple Intelligence generative AI features, we expected that Apple would equip it with at least 8GB of RAM.
Key upgrades of the iPhone 16e model
Talking about the major upgrades in the iPhone 16e, Apple has replaced the A15 Bionic chipset with a newer and more powerful A18 processor in the latest budget iPhone. Apple has manufactured it using the 2nd-gen 3nm fabrication technology. Apple’s first C1 5G modem features an all-new internal design. In select regions, the G modem has satellite features, including Emergency SOS, Roadside Assistance, Messages, and Find My Via satellite.
Furthermore, Apple equipped the iPhone 16e with a bigger 6.1-inch OLED display that has a refresh rate of 60Hz. A layer of Ceramic Shield glass protects its screen, unlike the Gorilla Glass used on the iPhone SE 2022. The base model of the new iPhone offers 128GB of native storage as opposed to 64GB on its predecessor.
Apple has also included a customizable Action Button on the iPhone 16e, which is also present on the higher-end iPhone 16 models. The camera department has also received an upgrade with a 48MP wide-angle main lens. Apple has also made the new iPhone more durable with an IP68 rating. Furthermore, the iPhone 16e offers drastically better battery life (26 hours of video playback) as compared to the previous model (15 hours of video playback).
For those interested, the iPhone 16e is available at the starting price of $599 for the base 128GB storage variant. You can pre-order the new iPhone starting February 21st, while the general sales will kick off on February 28th.
