Apple’s Vision Pro is a stunning piece of technology. When Apple showed off demos of the headset, we didn’t think they could pull it off in real life. However, reviews of the headset proved us wrong. Now it’s about to get even smarter. Apple is reportedly planning on bringing Apple Intelligence to the Vision Pro this April.
Apple Intelligence for the Vision Pro
Currently, the Vision Pro can be thought of as a glorified computer that you can wear on your head. However, it does seem ripe for AI, and that’s something Apple is hoping to correct. According to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple will bring its Apple Intelligence suite of AI tools to the Vision Pro as soon as this April.
This includes Apple Intelligence features such as Writing Tools, Genmoji, and Image Playground, which will be part of the visionOS 2.4 software update. That being said, those are some weird AI choices for the Vision Pro. We would have expected Apple to introduce AI features that are more related to vision.
For instance, even though it’s not an Apple feature, AI tools like Circle to Search or Google Lens make more sense in a headset than Image Playground or Genmoji. Maybe Writing Tools could be useful for the headset since it doesn’t have a physical keyboard. But the rest has us scratching our heads.
Also, don’t hold your breath if you were hoping to see the Apple Intelligence version of Siri for the Vision Pro. Engineering issues and bugs have forced Apple to delay the update.
Apple’s vision for the future
Apple knows it cannot count on the iPhone to generate revenue forever. This is why Apple is branching out to other products like the Vision Pro. The Vision Pro, in its current form, does not cater to the masses. However, it represents a potential future for Apple.
Apple isn’t alone in exploring mixed reality devices. Other companies such as Meta, Samsung, and Google are also looking into the same space. It’s not hard to see why this could be a lucrative industry. Meta sold 1 million units of its Ray-Ban smart glasses last year.
As the tech progresses and becomes smaller and more accessible, those numbers could rise. We heard rumors that Apple was planning a pair of AR glasses that could replace the iPhone, but those plans have been scrapped.
