Google finally fixed the SOS issue on the Pixel Watch

Quickly contacting emergency services is great… but only when you WANT to contact them. Several users have been accidentally activating the SOS feature on their Pixel Watches, which is a major problem for obvious reasons. Well, Google finally fixed the SOS feature on the Pixel Watch.

In case you don’t know, you can easily contact emergency services using your Pixel Watch. All you have to do is tap the crown five times in rapid succession. That’s great, but the issue is that it’s rather easy to do this by mistake. Whether you press it while doing work or a curious child rapidly presses the button.

A few weeks ago, we got the news that Google was working on a way to combat this. Code in the Pixel Watch app pointed to Google making it harder to accidentally summon the SOS function. Now, it’s finally rolling out.

After a couple of weeks of waiting, Google is finally shelling out the update. To get this feature, you’ll need to update Personal Safety for Wear OS to version 2025.01.23.x. When you get the update, there will be one more step to activate the SOS function on your watch.

When you press the button five times, you’ll then be presented with an extra screen. On that screen, you’ll need to hold your finger on the screen for three seconds to contact emergency services. That’s a subtle yet useful way to keep accidents from happening.

Your ability to perform this will vary depending on your situation, but it helps that you can use the feature without looking at your watch. This means that you can summon it without drawing attention to it, which is crucial for certain situations.

Since this is still rolling out to people, there’s a chance that you won’t see it just yet. You’ll want to wait for the function to reach you if it hasn’t.
