Google Search's AI Mode to be available just a tap away on Pixels

Artificial intelligence has become the backbone of all of Google’s software developments. The company has been integrating AI into the vast majority of its products and services for a while now. Next on the list could be Google Search, the legendary internet search engine. New findings suggest that Google will allow you to access the upcoming Search’s AI mode from the home screen of your Pixel.

Google Search already integrates a touch of AI to improve results. AI Overviews is a feature that had a rather bumpy launch due to misleading—or even potentially dangerous—AI-generated answers. After a lot of refinement work, it works much better. AI Overviews finally does what Google promised it would do: offer direct and fast answers to your questions, saving you from browsing through search results. Of course, you always have the option to dig deeper by using reference links.

Pixel phones may get an updated Google Search widget with AI Mode integration

Google Search’s next big step regarding artificial intelligence is AI Mode. A report from a few days ago offered a first look at what Search’s AI Mode might look like—and work. It’s noteworthy that the image shared at the time was preliminary, so some UI things could change in the final product. However, the basics of how it works will probably remain the same.

Now, Android Authority has revealed that Google will let you access Search’s AI Mode from the home screen of your Pixel phone. Android expert and tipster Mishaal Rahman claims that Google is reworking its Search widget present at the bottom of the Pixel phones’ home screen to prepare it for the AI Mode rollout. This is necessary because the widget is not actually part of the Google app. So, the company must work on it separately. The source even includes a concept image of what the widget might look like when AI Mode is enabled.

As you can see, there could be a new “blink” on the magnifying glass icon. Users could also be able to activate AI Mode in the Google app, the report says. The option could be available as another chip alongside the classic “Images,” “News,” etc.

It is not yet known if it will reach more Android phones

It’s noteworthy that the report specifically mentions Pixel phones. It’s not yet known if Google will roll out the improved widget to Android devices from other brands. There are also no details on a possible release date for the feature. Let’s hope more details emerge soon.
