Google’s ongoing effort to protect Android users from scams is commendable. Speaking of scams, in November last year, the company rolled out Live Scam Detection to public beta users. While Google was ready to launch Live Scam Detection as one of the features in the March Pixel Drop, the launch date is now uncertain.
As the name suggests, Live Scam Detection identifies potential scams during calls by analyzing the conversation patterns. The system then tries to warn you through audio, visual, and haptic alerts. As for suspected text messages, the device will automatically move them to a spam folder or warn you about it. It’s a great way to ensure that no one will be able to take advantage of you.
Google may have pushed the launch date of Pixel’s live Scam Detection feature
A Gemini Nano-related blog post originally noted that “Scam Detection in calls and messages arrives on Pixel phones in March 2025.” The screenshot attached clearly shows that. Now, it seems Google may have pushed the launch date of Live Scam Detection for Pixel phones.
That’s because folks over at Android Authority today found that the company has updated the blog post linked above. In fact, the company removed the entire section that mentions the security feature.
Well, there’s no denying that the ETA provided every Pixel phone user with some hope. However, the uncertainty of the launch date may have popped a few questions in their heads now. It’s worth noting that Google hasn’t officially acknowledged why it removed the reference for the feature from its blog post. Nor is there any mention of a new launch date.
For the time being, you should know that Google’s Gemini Nano model will power Live Scam Detection on the Pixel 9 lineup. However, the security feature for the Pixel 6 series and up will rely on other on-device machine-learning models.
