Does your carrier truly offer unlimited data? Most carriers tend to advertise unlimited data. However, this is usually accompanied by fine print that states that your speeds get throttled after a certain amount. Well, if you’re a Mint Mobile customer, you’re in luck as the carrier has announced they’re removing the data caps on its Unlimited Plan.
Truly unlimited
According to a post on Reddit, some Mint Mobile customers have received notifications. These notifications inform them that their Unlimited Plan no longer has a data cap. This means that users can use all the data they want without worrying about throttled speeds.
Before this change, Mint Mobile’s Unlimited Plan had a soft cap of 40GB. This means your speeds are throttled until the next billing cycle once you hit the 40GB cap. However, remember that this upgrade still comes with a little asterisk next to it.
This is because while Mint Mobile is telling customers they are removing the data cap, the Unlimited Plan will retain the QCI 9 data. This means that customers will still experience throttled speeds. However, that will only happen for a limited time when the network is congested. This is part of the T&C of most carriers and ISPs under the fair data use policy, where they try to distribute their bandwidth equally among all users.
Joining other carriers
With this upgrade, Mint Mobile joins a list of other carriers that offer truly unlimited data. This includes major carriers such as Verizon with its Verizon Unlimited Plus and Cricket Unlimited, both of which offer truly unlimited data.
However, neither of these plans is cheap. Verizon’s plan costs $80 a month for a single-line, while Cricket’s plan is $60. Mint Mobile, on the other hand, starts at $30 a month.
That said, customers don’t rely solely on pricing to make their decisions. They also consider other factors like perks such as hot spotting, international calling, and coverage. However, if you’re looking for a prepaid carrier that offers unlimited data, this upgrade could make Mint Mobile worthy of your consideration.
Aside from these notifications, Mint Mobile hasn’t officially announced anything yet. We’ll keep an eye out for an official announcement in case there are additional details.
