OPPO Find N5 vs OPPO Find N3 (OnePlus Open) Camera Comparison

We’ve waited over 16 months for a follow-up to the OPPO Find N3, and it’s finally here. The OPPO Find N5 was announced here in Singapore just a few hours ago, and we’ve already had time to compare it with the OPPO Find N3’s camera. Technically, we used the OnePlus Open, but as you most likely know, they are the exact same phone, aside from the logo and cellular network support.

As you likely know, if you follow AndroidHeadlines at all, we have had the OPPO Find N5 for a little over a week now. So this is not a rushed-out comparison. However, OPPO did send out an update on Monday of this week, that did make some changes to the camera and add some new features. So, all the pictures in this comparison are from the latest version of the software, and the OnePlus Open is also on its latest version.

The skinny of it is, that there are some improvements between these two phones, but you won’t notice a huge difference side-by-side until you get to macro. And that’s thanks to OPPO using the telephoto lens for macro shots.

Macro gets a huge upgrade with Find N5’s telephoto lens

A feature that I have been wanting for years, is telemacro. And the OPPO Find N5 has added that this year. Most other smartphones do macro on the ultrawide lens. This is typically the most forgotten-about lens (Samsung only just upgraded theirs on the Galaxy S25 Ultra, this year), not to mention the fact that you have to get super close to a subject for a macro shot, oftentimes blocking out the light. Taking macro at 3x or 70mm eliminates that, and also uses a much better sensor.

So, in this comparison, you’ll notice that the OnePlus Open is shot at 35mm and the OPPO Find N5 is shot at 70mm. This is because the OnePlus Open/Find N3 will crop in on the 23mm ultrawide lens to do macro, versus the Find N5 doing it at 3x. That makes this comparison a bit tougher to do apples-to-apples, but here we go.

The first thing you’ll notice is, way more detail in all of these pictures. It’s actually pretty uncanny how much better macro photography is on the Find N5. It is also much brighter, this is due to the fact that there is more light being let into the sensor, since the Find N5 is not using the ultrawide sensor, as I mentioned before. And despite the smaller aperture and smaller sensor, the bokeh on the Find N5 looks much better than it does on the Find N3 in macro mode, surprisingly.

OPPO’s Find N5 is brighter than Find N3

When taking and comparing photos side by side with the Find N5 and the Find N3, the one thing I’m noticing is how much brighter the Find N5 is, despite it being a smaller sensor this year. The color temperature is also slightly different. It’s such a subtle change that I’m having trouble even figuring out which one is more accurate. The Find N5 is a tad cooler than the Find N3, but honestly, both are pretty much the right color temperature.

In the pictures below, there’s a few things I want to call out. Including the pictures of the OnePlus Open and Find N5, these were taken in portrait mode on their respective devices. Despite being the same aperture, the Open does a much better job with the edges than the Find N5 did. In fact, I had to lower the aperture to f/4.5 on the Find N5 to get a decent looking picture, and it still struggled with the edges on the One. And the photo of the fountain is actually in action mode on both phones. I did not notice much of a difference here, other than the brighter Find N5.

Is this a worthy upgrade?

Now, you’re probably wondering if this is a good enough upgrade to go with the Find N5. Well, that all depends on what you prefer in a phone. If you want a foldable for productivity, then the Find N5 is a great option. But if you want the best cameras on a phone, then you might want to grab a phone from OPPO’s sister brand, Vivo. I do think that OPPO made a pretty good compromise don’t the cameras to make them thinner, but still improve on them (in some areas) versus keeping the phone thicker like some other foldable devices.

Of course, the choice is always up to you, as you’re the one spending the money on these devices. And since the Find N5 won’t be sold in the US as the OnePlus Open 2, OPPO kind of made that decision for some people already.
