Summary:OpenAI CEO Sam Altman just announced that the company will delay GPT-5. Also, it will launch new o3 and o4 mini models in the meantime.
Avid AI fans have been waiting for the next generation of OpenAI’s models, GPT-5 since last year. Next month will mark a year since it announced GPT-4o, and we were expecting a GPT-5 launch then. Well, in 2025, we’re sure that we’ll see that model, but it won’t be anytime soon. Sam Altman announced that the company had to delay GPT-5. However, there’s some good news.
OpenAI will delay GPT-5, but it has other goodies for users
The company has been going through outages recently (so, what else is new?). This time, it’s not because of the usual reasons. The company has seen a massive surge of users after ChatGPT gained the ability to generate images. As such, it’s been tough keeping the servers up.
So, OpenAI hype is at an all-time high. This is why it was a bummer to fans when Sam Altman, the company’s CEO, made an announcement on X that it was going to delay GPT-5. He said that OpenAI will release “in a few months.”
As for the reason, apparently, there are “a bunch” of them. It seems that the company was having some trouble integrating the new model, which is one major cause for the delay. Also, he stated, “we want to make sure we have enough capacity to support what we expect to be unprecedenteddemand.” Sure, that’s a pretty confident statement, but we can’t deny that it’s true. When OpenAI announces GPT-5, it will probably be the talk of the town. It’ll overshadow every other AI announcement happening around that time.
Though OpenAI had to delay GPT-5, the company has some new goodies for its fans. It will release o3 and o4-mini. These are going to be reasoning models, and they’ll probably be rather powerful. OpenAI will release these models in just a few weeks.
