Summary: The latest leaks reveal that Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 will deliver major upgrades. This includes a larger cache, faster LPDDR6 memory support, and a 30% performance boost thanks to TSMC’s advanced 3nm process. The new chip is shaping up to be Qualcomm’s most powerful yet, which is set to debut later this year.

Qualcomm will unveil its next-gen flagship chipset—presumably the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2—later this year. Thanks to a post on Weibo by tipster Digital Chat Station, some juicy new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 details have leaked. Based on the information, here’s what we can expect to see in Qualcomm’s next-gen flagship chipset.

Larger cache, faster memory

According to the post, Qualcomm’s next flagship chipset will ship with a bigger cache, faster memory support, and major GPU and CPU upgrades. Specifically, the leak points to a GPU with 16MB cache per compute unit, which could mean a total of 32MB of L2 cache. This is an upgrade from the 24MB L2 cache in its predecessor. We’re also looking at support for LPDDR6 memory. However, it is still backward-compatible with LPDDR5X for manufacturers who want to save on costs.

Additional details on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 reveal that the new chip will use TSMC’s latest third-gen 3nm process (N3P). This is to be expected. It should also bring better efficiency and performance over the N3E process used for the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Based on early testing, it shows a 30% performance improvement.

Corroborating earlier rumors

This isn’t the first time we’ve learned about the upcoming chipset. A past leak by @Jukanlosreve previously claimed that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 scored 4,000 points in single-core and 13,000 points in multi-core tests. This is a huge jump from last year’s benchmarks. The GPU is getting an upgrade, too. The chipset is expected to use the Adreno 840, which is rumored to clock at 1.35GHz. This will be an upgrade over the previous Adreno 830’s 1.1 GHz.

Digital Chat Station had also previously shared an alleged AnTuTu score of 3.8 million points for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2. For comparison, the current leader, iQOO 13, sits just below 2.7 million points. If these numbers are accurate, this chip could be about 40% faster.

Qualcomm is also said to be using second-gen Oryon cores in a setup with two Prime cores and six Performance cores. This could explain the performance leaps.

Based on everything we know so far, Qualcomm’s next flagship chipset is shaping up to be a substantial upgrade. Qualcomm will announce the new chipset later this year at its Snapdragon Summit. So, check back with us for more updates.
