Last year, Samsung started selling its Galaxy Ring. This was a pretty big step for the company, as it entered a completely new market. Seen as a competitor to the Oura Ring, the Galaxy Ring has expanded Samsung’s portfolio of wearable devices.
If you buy one, and you decide to play fast and loose with the charger, you might want to rethink that. Samsung recently started selling replacement Galaxy Smart Ring chargers, and the price just might raise your heart rate (lucky, you’re wearing a smart ring).
The Galaxy Ring replacement charger is pretty expensive
Buying accessories for devices can be pricey, and this goes double for proprietary accessories. You can’t charge your Galaxy Ring with any old charger, you need the one straight from Samsung. After nearly a year of selling the Galaxy Ring, Samsung finally started selling the replacement charger.
How much could a charger realistically cost? It doesn’t do much more than supply electricity to the ring, so it shouldn’t cost much. It certainly shouldn’t cost 22.5% of the price of the Galaxy Ring itself, yet here we are. If you want to buy a replacement charger, it will cost you $90.
That seems like a pretty crazy price to charge for a charger. We’re not sure what sort of tech goes into the charger that pushes the price that high. In any case, it’s that or go ring-less. It’s also important to know that the case is size-specific. So, if you wind up breaking your case, you’ll need to pick the right size.
