Summary: Elon Musk-owned X has been working on a couple of new features like XChat and X Money. Earlier this year, some users spotted them in the sidebar of X’s web version. Now, a tipster has shared screenshots of XChat for Android, which will periodically require a four-digit PIN code for enhanced security.

When Elon Musk bought Twitter and turned it into X, he didn’t just buy the platform to keep it as a regular social network. Musk aims to make X the “everything app,” just like China’s WeChat, which users use to communicate, pay, shop, and much more. Earlier this year, the company confirmed that it is working on a payment feature called X Money. Furthermore, the platform started working on XChat, an encrypted messaging service. Now, a leak has revealed that X is also developing XChat for Android devices.

X is developing XChat for Android with password protection for enhanced security

An X user who goes by the handle @swak_12 has shared a couple of screenshots that reveal a few details regarding XChat for Android. The screenshots reveal that the XChat service will appear in the sidebar of X. Earlier this year, some users also spotted it as a dedicated tab in the same location, but it wasn’t functional.

Furthermore, the screenshots suggest that the XChat app inside X will require a four-digit PIN for enhanced security. Similar to the encrypted messaging app Signal, XChat will also periodically remind users to enter their security PIN. Unfortunately, the screenshots haven’t revealed anything else regarding the features of XChat.

Musk wants to expand X’s DM feature with XChat

It looks like the tech billionaire wants to expand X’s DM (Direct Message) feature with XChat to compete against the likes of Meta’s WhatsApp. More specific details about the features the company is developing for XChat remain unclear. It is also not known if the company will launch it as a dedicated application or just as a feature in the sidebar of X.

Besides, X is also working on X Mail, an email service aimed at taking on Gmail. Musk had already teased this feature back in December 2024. It could be different from Gmail, as Musk has hinted at a DM-style interface. The service won’t offer a traditional email format. Sadly, there’s no word on when exactly X is planning to launch these features; only time will tell.
