We asked what you thought the best smartwatch of 2019 was and you chose the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2.
With its sleek and sporty style and dedicated health and fitness features, it appeals to just about everyone. And, here at Android Headlines we chose the same exact same watch as the best smartwatch because we believe it truly is that good.
Interestingly, the Galaxy Watch Active 2 won by a pretty huge margin. It got 52.2-percent of the votes for the best device in this category. The next highest was the Fossil Gen 5, which only received 21.7-percent of the votes.
The Fitbit Versa 2 and the Huawei Watch GT2 came in third and fourth respectively. On top of that Fitbit got 17.4-percent of the votes and Huawei came out with just over 8-percent. So, Samsung indeed won by a lot.
Really great performance, understated style
Samsung knocked it out of the park with the Galaxy Watch Active 2. From the touch bezel working pretty seamlessly to the software working just as well.
And unlike past Samsung smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch Active 2 is perhaps the company’s most minimalist-looking watch. There’s no overly-protruding crown buttons. No Samsung logos on any part of the watch that’s visible when wearing it.
More to the point, the watch runs really well and it can run for days on end without breaking a sweat. The touch bezel is a good example. It means you have to touch the screen to get the same function out of it that you had with a rotating bezel on the Gear S3.
But it also means one less moving part on the watch. And that Samsung had to integrate another touch interaction into the software. The company did a great job at ensuring the touch bezel interaction works flawlessly. And it really does.
At no point did the watch ever feel like it was running slow either. It’s quick, and its easy to navigate user interface doesn’t take forever to become familiar with.
The best possible smartwatch for Android devices
There are a lot of different smartwatches out there compatible with Android. And most of them run on varying software. Some use Wear OS, some use in-house software made by the manufacturer, and then there’s Samsung’s options.
While Samsung’s watch software works best with Samsung phones, you really lose much by using a non-Samsung phone. I found the watch worked great with the Pixel devices.
So when it comes to best all-around smartwatch for Android as a platform, Samsung’s shown that it can offer something not only versatile, but high-quality. Which is rarer than you might think.
Samsung took everything it’s learned so far from its previous smartwatches and compiled all of that into the Galaxy Watch Active 2. Making it tough to beat when it comes to any competition.
