It hasn’t even aired yet, but new one-off drama King Charles III is already causing controversy over the warring Windsors and sightings of Princess Diana’s ghost.

New pictures of the cast show Charlotte Riley and TimPigott-Smith in character as Charles and Kate Middleton in the new BBC drama that sees the Prince in charge.

Based on an award-winning West End and Broadway play of the same name by writer Mike Bartlett, King Charles III may follow the traditional line of succession but that's about it for similarities to the real-life Royals. Or so they'd like you to think.

Promising plenty of high-stakes drama for viewers, the show has been met with criticism due to its imaginative portrayals of royal figures, and any actors involved may be waiting a long time before seeing their names on the Queen’s (or King’s) honours list.
