University Challenge contestants are usually better known for their smarts than their style, but one contestant captured viewersâ attention with his seriously jazzy jumper.
Theo Howe, from Fitzwilliam College Cambridge sported the multi-coloured pullover â complete with abstract green, yellow, red and blue stripes â during Mondayâs episode, leaving viewers rather distracted.
Fans of the show shared jokes and gifs about their reaction to Howeâs unusual knitwear on social media.
Some loved its rainbow garishness and wondered where they could buy a similar item.
But for others the bright colour combination was simply too much for a Monday evening.
Howe, who studies Japanese at Cambridge, even joined in the fun, replying to tweets complimenting him on the garment.
He even edited his Twitter bio to read: âOwner of a distracting jumperâ and revealed the top had been âknitted by a family friendâ.
âHoweâs outfit certainly didnât hurt his teamâs chances as Fitzwilliam College scored almost double the points of their rivals Leicester, sending them through to the next round.
Itâs not the first time a University Challenge contestantâs fashion sense has sparked a social media frenzy, in 2015 Kaamil Shah from Kings College, Cambridge raised eyebrows with his black pleather vest and gold chain.
University Challenge continues on Mondays at 8pm on BBC Two.
