Exclusive: Samsung Galaxy S24 FE will have larger display, battery than its predecessor

Samsung is not done releasing phones this year. While we’ve already heard quite a few rumors about the upcoming Galaxy S24 FE, we now have even more information about the upcoming smartphone, which we expect to launch in October.

Samsung will offer the Galaxy S24 FE in five colors: blue, green, black, graphite, and yellow. Last year, the Galaxy S23 FE was available in Mint, Cream, Graphite, Purple, Indigo, and Tangerine. The Indigo and Tangerine are available exclusively from Samsung’s website. The design is going to remain basically the same as the Galaxy S23 FE and the Galaxy S24 from earlier this year. Just like its predecessor, the Galaxy S24 FE will sport an aluminum frame, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ will protect the display.

On the camera front, it actually has almost the same cameras as the $1,899 Galaxy Z Fold 6, surprisingly. That includes a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera, and an 8-megapixel 3x optical zoom with a 10-megapixel selfie camera that is still a hole punch. Samsung will use Galaxy AI to get clear shots from long distance, with “AI Zoom”. Though, we are unsure how far the zoom distance is on the Galaxy S24 FE. It should be similar to the Galaxy S23 FE (since it’s the same lens), which has a 30x hybrid zoom.

Galaxy S24 FE will likely have the best display in its class

Samsung is again equipping the Galaxy S24 FE with a 6.7-inch 120Hz display, which will have a peak brightness of 1,900 nits. While we don’t know pricing yet, we expect it to be around $600 – the price of the Galaxy S23 FE. So if we compare it to the Galaxy S23 FE’s display which was 6.4-inch 120Hz display with a peak brightness of 1,450 nits, it’s quite the upgrade. Another competitor would be the Pixel 8a, which has a 6.1-inch 120Hz 2,000nit peak brightness display. So Samsung is slapping a pretty impressive display on this phone.

Battery is rated at up to 29 hours of video playback and up to 78 hours of music playback. That’s up from the 21 hours and 66 hours, respectively on Galaxy S23 FE. That’s thanks to the 4,565mAh capacity battery in the Galaxy S24 FE. While that is just a tiny bit larger than the Galaxy S23 FE, it means that the Exynos 2400e must be a whole lot more power efficient compared to the Exynos 2200 that powered the Galaxy S23 FE last year.

Galaxy AI comes to Galaxy S24 FE, too

As expected, Samsung is bringing Galaxy AI over to the Galaxy S24 FE as well. We’re seeing many of the features that launched with Galaxy Z Fold 6, being advertised for the Galaxy S24 FE as well. This includes Portrait Studio, which uses Generative AI to provide some really cool stylized portrait photos. Circle to Search, Generative Edit, Sketch to Image and Live Translate will be available as well.

This also likely means that the Galaxy S24 FE will launch with One UI 6.1.1 since Portrait Studio is only available on Samsung devices with One UI 6.1.1. However, One UI 7 is coming pretty soon, but it would be a big surprise to see the Galaxy S24 FE launch with it pre-installed.
