National Gin Day 2018: These are the 10 best gins in a tin

We've tested out the best gin in tins and found your ultimate summer tipple
Going Out

Ah, summer. It's finally upon us.

People are once again lounging on the grass in Hyde Park during their lunch break, the collective London-in-winter uniform of black is starting to see pops of colour and we're momentarily ditching our beloved red wine for our favourite summer tipple: gin.

Gin in tins are as iconic to British summertime as croquet, garden parties and rain in July.

But what is the best gin in a tin? To save you the hassle, we decided (at 9:35am on a work morning no less) to test out 10 of the best for you.

With our expert palettes, we managed to use adjectives such as 'lemon-y' and 'gin-y' to describe the G&Ts - but it's our faces that really gave away what we were thinking.

We also scored the gin in tins out of 10 and the winner by a massive margin was Portobello Road's G&T can (£3, ginkiosk.com) which averaged a nine out of ten.

The others were ranked as follows:

  • Portobello Road: 9/10
  • Gordon's original: 8/10
  • Copper House: 7/10
  • Sainbury's Gin with Rose Lemonade: 7/10
  • Gordon's Pink Gin: 6.5/10
  • Sainbury's G&T: 6/10
  • M&S No. 2: 6/10
  • M&S No. 1: 6/10
  • Old Hopking Regular: 6/10
  • Old Hopking Diet: 5.5/10

Cheap, cheerful and easy to pack for a picnic - there's a reason we keep reaching for gin in tins and you can expect to see us holding a Portobello Road can this summer.
