Nandoâs to launch its first ever plant-based âchickenâ dishes â but they wonât be vegan

Popular chicken-centric restaurant chain Nandoâs has announced it will launch its first ever plant-based, meat-alternative dish this week.
From tomorrow, the restaurant group will serve âThe Great Imitatorâ on the âBurgers, Pittas and Wrapsâ section of its menus, a chicken-resemblant filling made with pea protein.
The plant-based dishes will be flavoured with Nandoâs âperi-periâ marinade, and diners will still be able to choose their desired level of spiciness.
While the product itself is meat and animal product-free, it will be cooked on the same grills as the chainâs chicken products, and is therefore not categorised as vegan.

The filling will, however, be served in burgers, wraps and pittas with vegan âperi-naiseâ sauce, a plant-based alternative to mayonnaise. The new sauce will also be available as a condiment alongside its sweet potato wedges.
The product will be available at all Nandoâs locations across the country, for dine-in, collection and delivery.
The Great Imitator will be available at Nandoâs restaurants from October 13. For more information, visit nandos.co.uk
