How To Get Rid Of The Google Meet Tab In Gmail For Android

Google has decided to start bringing Google Meet (as well as Google Chat) into the Gmail app for Android and iOS. This is after Google decided that people wanted more apps, now they are putting them all into the same app.

But we all already know Google has no idea what it wants to do with messaging and video chatting apps, and that’s a conversation for another day.

What we want to go over today, is how to get rid of that Google Meet tab that now appears at the bottom of the Gmail for Android app. It also appears on iOS, and on the left-side of the Gmail web app. Google’s idea here was to make it easier to start a meeting. Since we spend loads of time in our email already, it was a logical place to put it. But it takes up a lot of space on the Gmail app, and most of us don’t need it. So here’s how you can get rid of it.

How To Get Rid Of The Google Meet Tab In Gmail For Android

Open the Gmail app on your Android device.

Now open the hamburger menu on the left side of the device.

From there, scroll down to the Settings, and tap on that.

Next, you’re going to choose the email account that you want to remove the Meet tab from.

Now, scroll down to the “Chat & Meet” portion of the settings. (Note: on the screenshot below, it only shows “Meet” because it is not a G Suite account, on G Suite accounts, you should see “Chat & Meet).

The first option will say “Show the Meet tab for video calling”. Uncheck that.

And that’s it. Now that Meet tab is going to be gone. It makes more sense to keep it in the web app though, since that is where you are most likely going to do most of your video chats anyways.
