How To See When You'll Run Out Of Google Photos Storage

Google Photos is set to drop the unlimited storage feature next week, on June 1, 2021. Which means that we’ll have to be more careful about what photos we back up to Google Photos, and try to make the most out of our storage. Luckily, Google does have a storage estimator feature available for Photos. This also takes into account other storage like Google Docs, Drive and Gmail, to give you a good idea of how long it might take to use that storage.

This can be a very useful tool, as you can see how long it’ll take you to use up all of your storage, and when you might need to upgrade. Remember that everyone gets 15GB of storage with Google One, for free. Google does allow for upgrades, starting at 100GB for $1.99 per month or $19.99 per year. Which is super cheap and definitely worth it if you are a big Google user. Though the better plan is 2TB for $9.99 per month, as you get 10% cash back in the Google Store, as well as the Google One VPN.

How To See When You’ll Run Out Of Google Photos Storage

To find your estimate for your account, head here.

Here you will see how long Google estimates your storage to last. It will also show you how much storage photos and videos are using, versus Drive and Gmail, and how much is left. It’s a good visual, to help you figure out if you need to upgrade to more storage, or find another option.

This is your Google One storage, which is used across Google Drive, Photos and Gmail. As you can see from the image above, it shows that it will take more than four years to use up my 2TB of storage. Which sounds about right.

Now, since Google launched this feature last year (with the announcement of killing off unlimited storage), it has added some more features to this page. Including showing you how much storage you can free up from getting rid of large photos and videos, blurry photos, screenshots and other things. There is also a link to clean up your Google Drive and Gmail storage.

And that’s it. That’s how you can see how much storage you have left and how long it should last you.
