If you’re an avid Instagram user, you probably know that tagging people is possible in both Instagram Stories and posts. Well, not everyone knows how to do that, and that’s where we come in. We’ve recently shared a tutorial on how to tag someone in an Instagram Story, and we’ll do the same thing now, but for an Instagram Post. The procedure is a bit different in comparison.
We’ll do this one step at a time. You’ll be able to find all the steps below, along with the belonging screenshots. We’ll include everything you need to follow along, and not get lost somewhere along the way. The procedure is not that complicated, but you can tag people in existing and new posts, so those are two completely different procedures. We’ll go through both of those, separately.
How to tag someone in a new Instagram post
Once you open your Instagram app, you’ll need to tap on the ‘+’ icon at the top.
A pop-up menu will appear, and you’ll see the ‘Post’ option there, it’s first in line.
On the next screen, simply choose the image you’d like to tag someone in, and tap the right-pointing arrow in the top-right corner.
The next step is choosing the filter you’d like to you for the image. Once you’re done, tap the arrow in the top-right corner again.
The next menu will offer an option to tag someone via the ‘Tag people’ option.
The image will reopen, and you’ll be able to tap a specific place to tag someone, simply choose where.
Now you can search for a person you’d like to tag in that spot. The moment you start typing, names will start popping up.
Once you spot the person you want, tap him/her.
The next menu will show you the final product, including the person you tagged. If you like what you see, tap the check icon in the top-right corner.
All you have to do now is confirm your choices by tapping the check icon again, the one in the top-right corner.
How to tag someone in an existing Instagram post
Tagging someone in an existing post requires quite a few steps as well. You’ll want to go back to the main Instagram page, and then tap your profile icon in the bottom-right corner.
Then you’ll see your posted images/video on the next screen, choose one.
That image will open at the top of your page, and you’ll need to tap the three vertical dots in the top-right corner.
A pop-up menu will appear with a bunch of options. The one we’re looking for is the ‘Edit’ one.
Here you’ll see the ‘Tag people’ option, which you’ll need to tap.
Your chosen image will open, and you’ll be able to tap on a specific part of it to tag someone. Choose where, and do it. You will momentarily be thrown into the next menu. You can also opt not to choose a spot, but tag a person on that image in general. In that case, you’ll need to tap the check icon at the top.
In the next image, you’ll see where your tag ended up and you’ll be able to search for a person to tag.
The moment you start typing, Instagram will start suggesting people. Choose the one you want.
The next menu will show you who you tagged, where, and you’ll be required to confirm your choices by once again tapping the check icon in the top-right corner.
The last stop will allow you to overview your choices, and require you to confirm once again. The procedure is the same, you need to tap the check icon in the top-right corner.
That’s it, you’ve tagged a person in your existing post.
