53rd British soldier is killed in Afghanistan while on patrol

A British soldier has been killed during a routine patrol in the Helmand Province in southern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has said.
The soldier, from the 1st Battalion, Royal Anglian Regiment was seriously injured by small arms fire during fighting with Taliban forces.
He was airlifted to the main British base at Camp Bastion, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The unnamed soldier is the 53rd to have been killed since the start of operations in November 2001.
