Six-term school year gets go-ahead

Children will change to a six-term school year with a shorter summer break within two years, it was revealed today.
The unanimous vote of 150 education authorities has opened the way for the switch.
GCSEs and A-levels will be brought forward to the end of a fifth term from April to May so that students know their results in mid-July before applying to university.
Up to 30 councils will pilot the scheme from next September, including Hampshire and Kent.
