Weather comes to the aid of California's firefighters

Rain and cooler weather have given firefighters in southern California their first chance to beat fires that have devastated more than 1,000 square miles.

After nearly two weeks of dry heat and strong winds, drizzle and mist from low clouds helped firefighting teams contain two of the biggest blazes.

So far the fires have destroyed more than 3,000 homes. The death toll remains at 20, but at least six people are still missing and rescue workers fear they may find many more bodies.
